JOSHUA TREE, SAN BERNARDINO COUNTY — October 22, 2026. Residents and property owners can check county-regulated vacation rentals using the San Bernardino County official permitted short-term rental map. Joshua Tree is unincorporated, so county rules are particularly relevant when a dwelling is rented for 30 days or less.
What number handles vacation-rental complaints?
The county’s current 24-hour complaint hotline is 1-833-722-7871 (1-833-SBC-STR1). The county changed this number in 2023, and the older toll-free number still appearing on some general informational mailers should not be used as the first source. The county Short-Term Rentals department lists 909-884-4056 for general Code Enforcement service questions and maintains an office at 63665 Twentynine Palms Highway in Joshua Tree.
Check a permit before alleging a violation
Enter the property address into the county’s permitted-rentals map to check its records. The county cautions that its map applies to unincorporated county locations. Not finding an address does not automatically prove a violation: verify the location, jurisdiction and current status with county staff. When reporting a concern, provide the address, date, permit or parcel number if known and a clear description. Do not trespass or confront guests.
Useful nearby animal services
San Bernardino County’s official service-area map associates Joshua Tree’s Morongo Basin area with Yucca Valley Animal Shelter, 760-365-3111. For animal-control field requests, call 1-800-472-5609, option 1; the shelter and field service have different roles.
For county mental-health access, road problems, the Sheriff’s dedicated Desert non-emergency dispatch and other phone numbers, save the California58 county contact directory. This independent public-service explainer does not accuse any specific property of illegal operation; for an immediate emergency, call 911.
